Alumna thanks faculty for providing guidance and motivation; has solo show at SUNY Oneonta this month

Alumna Teresa Memole, a 2016 Digital Media graduate, will have a solo student show at SUNY Oneonta, starting Jan. 25. “Welcome to Bestiary” will open this week in SUNY Oneonta’s Martin-Mullen Annex Gallery. The exhibit will run from Jan. 25 to Feb. 9, with a public reception Friday, Jan. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the lobby.

Memole recently wrote to her former instructor Kyra Garrigue to express appreciation for the educational foundation she received here. Part of that message is below:

I wanted to let you both know that I have been given the opportunity at SUNY Oneonta for a solo art exhibition. It opens this Friday, and seeing all of my work labeled and on display on a wall that students and faculty pass by every day is honestly surreal. I wouldn’t have achieved this if not for the outstanding education I got at the Valley, ESPECIALLY from you and Justin (Baker).

Because of your guidance, in both academics and life in general, I have been able to excel at Oneonta in more ways than I could have imagined. In addition to the art show, my art has won awards and been displayed on campus, I have received a competitive art-based scholarship, and maintained good grades that have put me on the Provost list these past three semesters. Literally NONE of this would have happened if I hadn’t gone to Hudson Valley first.

I am so grateful to have had the experience of being part of a new degree program, and to have learned so many different skills such as web design, animation, coding, etc. The education that you gave me has been such an amazing advantage in my continuing academic career. As I now get into the routine of my final college semester, I keep thinking about our little Digital Media family, and how proud I am to still be in touch with my old classmates and see all that they have achieved as well. I apologize for how incredibly long-winded this got. To sum up, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have taught me. The Digital Media department will always be my college home. Please let Justin know that I thank him too!
